Movie Review: "One Night In Miami" — Ali, Malcom X, Sam Cooke And Jim Brown

Last week was so much fun, what could have made it so interesting than seeing an Oscar worthy movie/film, Amazon Studio’s One Night in Miami.

I would not lie to you, this is a movie for our time, our generation. Jumping straight to the point, the historical drama which features Kingsley Ben-Adir as Malcom X, Leslie Odom Jr. as Sam Cooke, Eli goree as Cassius clay later turned Muhammad Ali and adi horge as Jim brown, tells the story of a summit involving four pivotal members of the African-American community on the night  of Feb. 25, 1964, in Miami.

Cassius clay becomes the world heavyweight champion and joins Jim Brown, Sam Cooke and Malcom X, as they discuss the responsibility of being successful black men during the civil rights movement.

The film which has recently coughed in two awards, is top notch from start to finish, an Oscar worthy film and it's in no doubt to see why the film is in the Academy Award conversation.

The film Director Regina King, who carefully  filmed this captivating story in such exquisite beauty, will in surely be a ccontender for Best Director.

The movie tells a story where  a post-fight gathering where Malcolm x brought together a group of acquaintances (Black leading figures) to celebrate Ali’s victory over Sonny Liston. Ali was actually expected to lose the fight, so there were no official victory party preparations.

It also shows black struggles of racial acts and how blacks fight to rise to the top with just their voice. My main man was Sam cooke, how he rose to fame and conquered larger than life through all odds. The issues it raises have not gone anywhere. It’s historical, yet perfectly relevant for our times. The movie is much more than a single night.

The movie ended with a famous classic from sam Cooke, "A Change is Gonna’ Come.”

He had previously heard Bob Dylan's “Blowin in the wind’ …” and was frustrated that a white man wrote what was to become an anthem on the Civil Rights Movement.

Cooke then wrote “A Change is gonna come..” soon after, and the film concludes with a life version of him singing it on The Tonight Show, the only known live version of the song.

A Night in Miami is out on Amazon Prime.
